The Blog Rears its Head

Summary Haiku

  • The blog is now up
  • Now what do I write about?
  • Mostly on front-end

Late last week I added the long awaited (by me, at least) blog to this site. All that remains is to organize my thoughts and get blogging!

The natural first step will be to find my voice. Each blogger I read frequently has a particular topic area they speak more often about; for design I visit Cameron Moll, for DOM I swing by adactio.com, and the list goes on (naturally these two individuals are not the only authorities on their subjects, just two solid examples to illustrate the point). I’ve had the blessing and curse of working heavily in both the frontend and backend fields, so I can find a topic or two from either field.

That said, I’m planning of writing more about front-end than backend - my passion is for the user, and front-end is where I’m happiest working.

I’ve mentioned to a few people my interest in developing a guide for designers interested in moving from table-based layout to using semantic markup and CSS. I’ve made that jump in my work and helped others with their jump, so I’m very interested in creating such a guide. I’ll likely focus less on the “why” (though I will touch on it) and more on the “I used to be able to do it this way, how do I do it now?” sort of material. Stay posted for the first topic, but in the meantime, email me at jeff at jeffsargent dot com with any requests for the guide.

Thanks, Interwebs - I hope not to bore you.
